Server load is at normal levels at this moment. There are around 220 chatters inside chat right now. Chat loading so slow must be caused by your browser's inability to load icons. There are approximately 20 thousand websites registered here, you are first admin/chatter reporting inability to load icons in a while. Last similar report was in March this year, read more here
