I have installed Blastchat as a replacement for utchat and it is by the far the better of the two components, with loads more features.
The only thing utchat could do, but Blastchat could not, is display a list of local rooms so that users could move from one to another with one click. On top of the chat window there are tabs with the names of the rooms, a bit like Firefox tabs.
If there could be a similar system - perhaps a list of rooms above the list of users to the right of the chat window - that would be fantastic. Would that be straightforward to implement?

Yes, implementation is moreless straight forward, and I hope to find time to get it done.
